WHO We Are

The As Safe As Possible Campaign is a not-for-profit national public awareness and education organization, launched in 1993 to halt the epidemic of unintentional injuries that has swept this country. It was formed with the belief that, through its efforts, childhood injuries can be prevented and lives saved. The history of accidental injury of young children demonstrates the continuing need to educate parents and grandparents on how to protect children from potentially harmful substances and circumstances. As a part of a continued effort to keep all young children safe and healthy, we provide safety information, with the hope that if this advice is followed, a reduction in the number of unintentional childhood injuries will follow.

WHAT We Do

The As Safe As Possible Campaign provides support and guidance in developing and implementing child safety programs. We happily work with any organization to establish invaluable injury prevention programs in their community; based on needs identified by community members. The As Safe As Possible Campaign encourages activities and other efforts that prevent injuries to children.

© ASAP advocates for children by promoting new ideas/ offering new solutions to solve the long standing childhood injury crisis.

© ASAP analyzes and monitors programs, to find out what works for child safety and what doesn't.

© ASAP educates the public and the media about children's safety issues

© ASAP provides opportunities for all people who care FOR and ABOUT children to get involved

© ASAP builds networks to forge stronger relationships among diverse community groups and individuals, who are determined to improve the quality of life for children.

WHY We Do It

© THE DANGER IS REAL. You may think that all children are going to get hurt, and that these injuries are not serious. Think again. Every year, 20,000 children die, and 50,000 are permanently disabled. Even more disturbing, these "accidents" would not have happened if their parents had removed known safety hazards, in their home. Detecting and correcting known safety hazards makes children less vulnerable to preventable death or disability, it also reduces health care costs. Feeling sorry isn't enough. People have to be inspired to get up and do something.

© Children. They are America's most precious asset. But are they safe? All children deserve to grow up in a safe environment.

© Unacceptably high childhood injury rates document an increasing need to educate parents and grandparents. Health, United States: 2000, a recently released a report from the CDC : presents national trends in health statistics and outlines data related to health status, use of healthcare, and healthcare expenditures proves there's work to be done, particularly with high-risk health behaviors: Mortality from unintentional injuries, the leading cause of death, in children was unchanged.

© "How could this have happened?" "Why didn't I see this coming?" "What should I have done differently?" These are questions no parent wants to ask .... The As Safe As Possible Campaign was formed so they won't have to.

WHEN We Do It

Every day. Stopping the #1 killer of children in the U.S. requires careful planning, innovative thinking, and strategic action.

The long term goal of this effort is: To change society's false notion that "accidents" just happen. We have a very ambitious goal: to eliminate unintentional childhood injury related deaths. This is all about zero tolerance. Who among us could tell a parent that any child's death is acceptable?

Our current focus: To achieve that long term goal, we need to start with small achievable steps. Every small effort can bring big rewards and will make a difference in the safety of America’s children.

The campaign is a collaborative effort of health care professionals, child care providers, and families working in partnership to improve the health, safety and well-being of all children.

Collaboration: Collaborate with as many professional organizations and advocacy groups as possible to find common interests, leverage existing resources, and create synergies.

Grass Roots Advocacy: Working with people like you, as well as the members of numerous professionals associations, we will launch a grass roots advocacy effort and build coalitions which will provide a full spectrum of opportunities to implement proven injury prevention strategies that can immediately be used.
