Drug Uses -
Allegra-D is taken to relief the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis in adults and children 12 years of age and older. Sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy nose/palate/throat, itchy/watery/red eyes and nasal congestion are treated effectively.
How Taken -
Allegra-D comes as a tablet to be taken twice a day without food by adults and children 12 years of age and older. Patients with decreased renal function should start taking Allegra-D with a dose of one tablet a day.
Warnings/Precautions -
You should not take Allegra-D if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) in the last 14 days. Consult with your doctor if you experience asthma or another lung disease, diabetes, thyroid problems, glaucoma or increased pressure in the eye, urinary retention or an enlarged prostate, kidney or liver disease, heart disease, high blood pressure or an irregular heartbeat. You may need special dosage or monitoring. Allegra-D is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is no reliable data whether Allegra-D is deleterious to an unborn baby. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or if you are breast-feeding a baby, as Allegra-D passes into breast milk. Children younger than 12 years old are not supposed to be treated with Allegra-D.
Missed Dose -
You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Nevertheless, if it is near to the time for your next dose, do not take an extra tablet to catch up for the dose you forgot. Do not take a double dose.
Possible Side Effects -
Consult with your doctor if you experience nausea, stomach upset, trouble sleeping, headache, or cold symptoms. Serious side effects are fainting and irregular heartbeat. Sometimes dizziness, mental/mood changes, fast heartbeat and fever may also occur. Be careful about drowsiness. In the case if any side effect occurs, contact your doctor immediately.
Storage -
Store Allegra-D at room temperature from 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F) in a dry place and out of direct sunlight.
Overdose -
In case of overdosage Allegra-D may cause giddiness, headache, nausea, vomiting, sweating, thirst, tachycardia, precordial pain, palpitations, difficulty in micturition, muscular weakness and tenseness, anxiety, restlessness, and insomnia. You may experience a toxic psychosis with delusions and hallucinations or developing of cardiac arrhythmias, circulatory collapse, convulsions, coma, and respiratory failure.
More Information -
Allegra-D may cause drowsiness, so be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. You should avoid such activities if you experience drowsiness. You should not take Allegra-D together with an antacid that contains aluminum or magnesium, as antacids may decrease the effects of Allegra-D.
