Drug Uses -
Diflucan is taken to treat vaginal candidiasis (vaginal yeast infections due to Candida), oropharyngeal and esophageal candidiasis, cryptococcal meningitis. Diflucan may be also used to decrease the risk of candidiasis in patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation who receive cytotoxic chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
How Taken -
Diflucan is a tablet or liquid to be taken orally once a day. Liquid should be shaken before each taking. You should take Diflucan exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change the dosage or stop taking Diflucan without medical consultation.
Warnings/Precautions -
You must not take Diflucan if you are using cisapride (Propulsid), as in combination with cisapride (Propulsid) Diflucam may cause serious (fatal) heart problems. Consult with your doctor if you suffer from kidney disease. In this case you may need special dosage or monitoring. It may also happen that you are not able to use Diflucan. Diflucan is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is no reliable data whether Diflucan is deleterious to an unborn baby. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or if you are breast-feeding a baby, as Diflucan passes into breast milk.
Missed Dose -
You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Nevertheless, if it is near to the time for your next dose, do not take an extra tablet to catch up for the dose you forgot. Wait and take your next tablet at the regular time. Do not take a double dose.
Possible Side Effects -
Stop administering Diflucan and seek immediate medical attention if you suffer from an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); liver damage (pale stools, yellowing of the skin or eyes, abdominal pain, unusual fatigue, or dark urine); or a rash. Continue administering Diflucan and consult with your doctor if you have nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; diarrhea; headache; dizziness; fatigue; or itching. Other side effects may also occur.
Storage -
Store tablets below 86°F (30°C). Protect from freezing. Diflucan injections in Viaflex Plus plastic containers are available in both sodium chloride and dextrose diluents. Store at 77°F (25°C) - 41°F (5°C). Protect from freezing.
Overdose -
The typical Diflucan overdosage symptoms are confusion, hallucinations, paranoia, decreased movement, decreased breathing, tearing eyes, drooling, urinary incontinence, seizures, and death. If you suspect an overdosage, seek immediate medical attention.
More Information -
Diflucan may cause dizziness, so be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. You should avoid such activities if you experience dizziness. Do not take alcohol, as in combination with Diflucan it has serious affect on the liver.
