Drug Uses - Elidel is used to treat atopic dermatitis, known as eczema, topically. It is prescription medicine for external use only. It is indicated for short or intermittent long periods of treatment. Elidel may be used on all your skin, even on the face and neck. Elidel is prescribed for adults and children age 2 years and older.

How Taken - The affected skin areas should be applied with a thin film of Elidel cream 1% twice a day. Rub Elidel cream 1% in skin gently and completely. Use Elidel cream 1% until the symptoms go away. Stop using Elidel cream 1% after the disease is completely treated. Do not bandage or wrap the treated area. Consult with your doctor if the symptoms do not go away after 6 weeks of treatment.

Warnings/Precautions - If you suffer from the congenital skin disorder Netherton's syndrome, do not use Elidel without medical consultation. You should also consult with your doctor if you are using any skin product (cream, ointment, lotion) or if you experience a skin infection or a disease of the immune system. . In this case you may need special dosage or monitoring. It may also happen that you are not able to use Elidel. Elidel is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is no reliable data whether Elidel is deleterious to an unborn baby. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or if you are breast-feeding a baby, as Elidel passes into breast milk. Elidel is prescribed for adults and children age 2 years and older.

Missed Dose - You should apply the missed dose as soon as you remember and then follow your usual prescription. Nevertheless, if it is near to the time for your next dose, do not apply the missed dose to catch up for the dose you forgot.

Possible Side Effects - Typical side effects are mild or moderate burning or a feeling of warmth that last over 5 days and then goes away. Consult with your doctor if you experience burning for more than 7 days. You may also suffer headache, and with long-term intermittent use, common cold/stuffy nose, influenza, sore throat, fever, viral infection, cough, herpes skin infections (like cold sores, chicken pox, or shingles), warts, or swollen lymph nodes (glands).

Storage - Store at 15°C-30°C (59°F-86°F). Prevent from freezing.

Overdose - There is no reliable data about Elidel overdose. However, if an overdose is suspected, seek medical attention immediately.

More Information - Try not to use any skin products on the treated areas. Avoid sunlight and sun lamps, tanning beds, and treatments with UVA or UVB light. Put on cloths that protect the area being treated from the sun.
