Drug Uses - Evista is used to treat or prevent osteoporosis in women after menopause. Take calcium and vitamin D with Evista if there is less than needed calcium and vitamin D in the food you prefer.

How Taken - Take one 60-mg tablet a day with or without food.

Warnings/Precautions - Consult with your doctor if you experience blood clots; stroke; cancer; increased triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood); or liver disease. In this case you may need special dosage or monitoring. It may also happen that you are not able to use Evista. Evista is in the FDA pregnancy category X. It is known that Evista causes birth defects in an unborn baby. You must not take Evista if you are pregnant, if you might be pregnant or if you breast-feeding a baby, as hormones in pills pass into breast milk and decrease milk production.

Missed Dose - You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Nevertheless, if it is near to the time for your next dose, do not take an extra tablet to catch up for the dose you forgot. Wait and take your next tablet at the regular time. Do not take a double dose.

Possible Side Effects - The most serious side effect is the appearance of blood clots that may cause even disability and death. Seek emergency medical attention if there are any signs of blood clots in the legs, lungs or eyes: leg pain or a feeling of warmth in the calves, swelling of the legs, hands or feet, sudden chest pain, shortness of breath or coughing up blood, sudden change in your vision, such as loss of vision or blurred vision. Hot flashes and leg cramps may appear in first six month. It may be not necessary for you to stop taking the medicine if any side effect occurs. Consult with your doctor.

Storage - Store at room temperature 20 to 250C (68 to 770F).

Overdose - There is no reliable data about Evista overdosage. No antidote for Evista exists.

More Information - Do not take alcohol and smoke. Let your doctor know you are taking Evista before any surgery. Stop taking Evista if you need to have confinement to bed. Try not to sit long during the treatment with Evista.
