Drug Uses -
Gris-PEG is used to treat ringworm infections: Athlete's foot, Barber's itch (inflammation of the facial hair follicles), Ringworm of the body, Ringworm of the groin and thigh, Ringworm of the nails, Ringworm of the scalp. Your doctor will test the infection before prescribing this medicine as it is used for treating only several types of fungal infections.
How Taken -
Adult should administer 330 mg of Gris-PEG a day at one time or divided in several doses. Children should take 3.3 mg of Gris-PEG per pound of body weight a day.
Warnings/Precautions -
Consult with your doctor if you start experience any sign of lupus erythematosus (a form of rheumatism) or a lupus-like condition (arthritis, red butterfly rash over the nose and cheeks, tiredness, weakness, sensitivity to sunlight, and skin eruptions). Avoid being in natural or artificial sunlight, you may become sensitive to it after taking Gris-PEG. Perform regular tests of kidney function, liver function, and blood cell production if you are taking Gris-PEG for a long time. Gris-PEG does not prevent fungal infections. The effectiveness of birth-control pills may be decreased, so use a second form of birth control. Men are advised to father a child only after 6 month since the treatment with Gris-PEG is over. Do not become pregnant when taking Gris-PEG.
Missed Dose -
You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Nevertheless, if it is near to the time for your next dose, do not take an extra tablet to catch up for the dose you forgot. Wait and take your next tablet at the regular time. Do not take a double dose.
Possible Side Effects -
Serious side effects occur because of high dosages or long periods of therapy. Stop taking Gris-PEG and seek medical attention if you experience skin rashes, urticaria, erythema multiform-like drug reactions, and rarely, angioneurotic edema or granulocytopenia. Continue taking Gris-PEG and contact your doctor in case you experience oral thrush, nausea, vomiting, epigastria distress, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, dizziness, insomnia, mental confusion, and impairment of performance of routine activities. Other side effects may also occur.
Storage -
Store at room temperature 15°-30°C (59°-86°F) in tightly closed containers.
Overdose -
If the overdosage is suspected, seek immediate medical attention.
More Information -
Try not to take alcohol while being treated with Gris-PEG as your heart beat may increase and your skin may become flush. Do not take Gris-PEG along with Blood-thinning drugs such as Coumadin, Barbiturates such as Phenobarbital and Oral Contraceptives without medical consultation, as the effect may be changed.
