Drug Uses - Lexapro is indicated for the treatment of depression and generalized anxiety disorder. Lexapro is in the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

How Taken - Lexapro is a tablet or a liquid to be taken orally once a day with or without food. You should take Lexapro exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change the dosage or stop taking Lexapro without medical consultation. Lexapro should be taken for several weeks until its full effect is felt.

Warnings/Precautions - Consult with your doctor if you experience liver or kidney disease, seizures, mania or have suicidal thoughts. In this case you may need special dosage or monitoring. It may also happen that you are not able to use Lexapro. Do not take Lexapro while taking citalopram (Celexa). Be careful! If you are allergic to citalopram (Celexa), you may be also allergic to Lexapro. Do not take Lexapro without medical consultation. Lexapro is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is no reliable data whether Lexapro is deleterious to an unborn baby. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or if you are breast-feeding a baby, as Lexapro passes into breast milk.

Missed Dose - You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Nevertheless, if it is near to the time for your next dose, do not take an extra tablet to catch up for the dose you forgot. Wait and take your next tablet at the regular time. Do not take a double dose.

Possible Side Effects - If you have any of side effects, stop administering Lexapro and seek emergency: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); an irregular heartbeat or pulse; low blood pressure (dizziness, weakness); high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision); or chills or fever. Continue taking Levbid and contact your doctor in case you experience: headache, tremor, nervousness, or anxiety; nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, or changes in appetite or weight; sleepiness or insomnia; or decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm. Other side effects may also occur.

Storage - Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture.

Overdose - If an overdose is suspected, seek immediate medical attention. The most typical signs of a Lexapro overdose are nausea, vomiting, tremor, drowsiness, dizziness, sweating, and a fast heartbeat.
