Drug Uses - Lipitor is indicated to decrease the amount of cholesterol and some fatty substances in your blood when you change the diet in order to restrict cholesterol and fat intake. When cholesterol and fats accumulate on the walls of your arteries (atherosclerosis), the blood flow and the oxygen supply to your heart, brain, and other parts of your body decreases. Lowering your blood level of cholesterol and fats may prevent heart disease, angina (Chest pain), strokes, and heart attacks.

How Taken - Lipitor is a tablet to be taken orally once a day with or without food. Try to take Lipitor regularly. do not change the dosage or stop taking Lipitor without medical consultation. Keep a low-cholesterol and low-fat diet.

Warnings/Precautions - Do not take Lipitor without medical consultation if you experience liver disease, chronic muscular disease, require major surgery, or have a blood disorder. In this case you may need special dosage or monitoring. It may also happen that you are not able to use Lipitor. Lipitor is in the FDA pregnancy category X. It is known that Lipitor causes birth defects in an unborn baby. You must not take Lipitor if you are pregnant, if you might be pregnant or if you breast-feeding a baby, as hormones in pills pass into breast milk and decrease milk production.

Missed Dose - You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Nevertheless, if it is near to the time for your next dose, do not take an extra tablet to catch up for the dose you forgot. Wait and take your next tablet at the regular time. Do not take a double dose.

Possible Side Effects - Side effects are not likely to occur. However, consult with your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms: gas, stomach pain or cramps, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, headache, blurred vision, dizziness, rash, itching or upset stomach. Seek emergency if you experience muscle pain, tenderness, muscle cramps or weakness with or without a fever.

Storage - Store in a tightly closed container at room temperature away from heat and moisture. Lipitor should be kept out of the reach of children.

Overdose - If an overdose is suspected, seek emergency. There is no reliable data about the symptoms of a Lipitor overdose.

More Information - Do not take alcohol. Taking alcohol along with Lipitor is deleterious to your liver. Do not take grapefruit and grapefruit juice, as the interaction of grapefruit and Lipitor may be dangerous.
