Drug Uses -
Nasonex is a nasal spray that is used for the treatment of allergy symptoms (seasonal and perennial), such as itchy, runny noses, sneezing and congestion caused by dust mites, pet dander and tree and grass pollen. This spray has corticosteroid anti-inflammatory properties. It is well known that corticosteroids have a wide range of effects on multiple cell types.
How Taken -
Shake Nasonex well before each spraying. You should be instructed by your pharmacist how to prime the spray pump. Spray it regularly but do not exceed the prescribed treatment period for full benefit. Usually improvement in symptoms comes within 2 days and full benefit ensues after 1-2 weeks of usage. So if you want to use Nasonex for the treatment of seasonal allergy, it is better to start therapy 2-4 weeks before the season.
Warnings/Precautions -
You are not able to inhale Nasonex if you have an infection. Consult with your doctor before using the spray because this drug can decrease the ability of human body to fight against infections. Tell your doctor if you have a nasal septum ulcer, recently had nasal surgery, or nasal damage. In such conditions you may not be able to take Nasonex or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during the treatment. Nasonex is in the FDA pregnancy C. It is not clear whether Nasacort Nasal Spray is detrimental to an unborn baby. You should consult with your doctor before taking Nasacort if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during the treatment or if you are breast-feeding a baby, because it is not known whether Nasacort passes into breast milk. Do not use Nasonex for children younger than 3 years of age.
Missed Dose -
Take Nasacort regularly. But don't take extra dose in situation when you forget to take a dose and it is near the time for the next intake. Wait and take next dose according to the dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up.
Possible Side Effects -
Nasacort can cause some side effects. The most common are headache or sore throat. If you have such effects and they persist or worsen, consult with your doctor immediately. It has been reported about vision changes, unusual nasal bleeding or irritation/pain, blood-tinged mucus/phlegm, unusual increase in thirst or urination, nausea, weakness, weight loss while using Nasonex. An allergy reaction is rare but seek emergency if it occurs. The typical symptoms of allergy are rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. In case you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Storage -
Nasacort Spray should be stored at 25°C (77°F) out of direct sunlight and humidity; permitted temperature range is from 15 to 30 °C (59 to 86°F). Brief light exposure (with normal use) is acceptable.
Overdose -
You are unlikely to overdose this medication. In case an overdose is suspected, seek emergency.
More Information -
Avoid allergens. Keep the cleanness. Try to keep off sources of infection because your immune system may not be able to fight against infection while using Nasonex. Try to stay away from people with any infection (chicken pox, measles etc).
