Drug Uses - Ortho Tri-Cyclen is a medicine contains an estrogen and progestin combination. It used to prevent pregnancy, regulate the menstrual cycle, treat symptoms of menopause, or treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How Taken - Take Ortho Tri-Cyclen regularly: one pill every day at the same time. In case you miss pills you could become pregnant. Do not start the pack late. The more pills you miss, the more likely you become pregnant. Spotting, light bleeding or upset stomach may occur during the first 1-3 packs of pills. These problems will usually disappear in other case consult with your doctor. Also you may experience spotting or light bleeding when you miss pills, even when you make up these missed pills. Ortho Tri-Cyclen may be not enough efficient if you take some medicines, including some antibiotics or if you have vomiting or diarrhea. In such cases use a back-up method (such as condoms or spermicides) and talk to your doctor. Warnings/Precautions - The factors that elevate the risk of unfavorable reactions while using Ortho Evra are smoking, high blood pressure, heart attack, blood clots, or other diseases of the heart and blood vessels. The efficacy of medicine may decrease if you have vomiting, diarrhea or you take antibiotics or anticonvulsants. In case you undergo any medical or dental treatments, emergency care, or surgery; wear contact lenses; taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Exposure to the sun may make these patches darker. If patches develop, use a sunscreen or protective clothing when exposed to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths. Be attentive! Ortho Tri-Cyclen does not protect from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) including HIV or AIDS. Avoid using of Ortho Tri-Cyclen if you are pregnant. You should consult with your doctor before taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen if you are or will be breast-feeding a baby, because hormones from patches are excreted in breast milk.

Missed Dose - In case you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember or take two pills at the next time according to your schedule. The likelihood of ovulation is unlikely to occur. It is possible to use a second method of birth control such as a condom or a spermicidal cream, jelly, or foam for at least 7 days in a row following the missed tablet to ensure protection from pregnancy. In case you miss two tablets in a row, take the two missed tablets as soon as possible or with your next dose according to the schedule (three total). It is also possible to take two tablets for the next two regularly scheduled doses (one missed tablet plus one regularly scheduled tablet for 2 consecutive days). If you choose this method you should know that chances are much greater that you may ovulate so you must use another form of birth control for at least 7 days following the missed pills. It is preferable to use a second method of birth control until your next period. In case you miss three tablets in a row, throw away the package and start a new package on the 7th day after the last day you took a pill. It is recommended to use another method of birth control until you have taken a pill for 7 subsequent days. Your period should occur during the 7 days without pills. Otherwise use a pregnancy test before using a new package of pills.

Possible Side Effects - Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, bleeding between menstrual periods, breast tenderness, or weight change. You should consult with your doctor if they continue or bothersome. Talk to your doctor if you have persistent or recurrent abnormal vaginal bleeding, a missed menstrual period, dizziness or fainting, swelling of fingers or ankles, headache, or difficulty wearing contact lenses Consult with your doctor immediately in case you have sharp or crushing chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, sudden severe headache or leg pain, yellow skin or eyes, changes in vision, numbness of an arm or leg, or severe stomach pain or you have any other effects not mentioned above.

Storage - Ortho Tri-Cyclen should be stored at indoor temperature away from light and humidity. It must be kept out of the reach of children.

Overdose - The overdosage of Ortho Tri-Cyclen is unlikely to occur. It has been reported about serious ill effects when young children accidentally took large doses of oral contraceptives. The symptoms of the overdosage may be nausea and withdrawal bleeding in females.

More Information - Before prescribing Ortho Tri-Cyclen your doctor will examine you and take a medical and family history. In some cases the physical examination may be postponed. Reexamination takes place at least once a year. Tell your doctor about any conditions mentioned above.
