Drug Uses - Skelaxin is known as a muscle relaxant. It is indicated to treat the pain and stiffness of muscle injuries, strains, sprains and muscle spasms.

How Taken - Skelaxin is a tablet to be taken orally. It is recommended to take it with food or immediately after meals to prevent stomach upset. The dose for adults and children over 12 years of age is two tablets (800 mg) three to four times a day. Follow the recommended dose strictly. Do not take it longer than prescribed.

Warnings/Precautions - Avoid taking Skelaxin in case you have acute intermittent porphyria. Your doctor should know your medical history, especially if you have liver problems. If have ever had any type of liver disease, you may not be able to take Skelaxin or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment. It is not recommended to take Skelaxin if you are pregnant or if you are breast-feeding a baby, as it is not clear whether Skelaxin passes into breast milk. In such situations consult with your doctor.

Missed Dose - In case you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember within 1 hour. Otherwise skip that dose and take the next one according to schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Possible Side Effects - Side effects of Skelaxin are nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal upset, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, nervousness or "irritability", hypersensitivity reactions, characterized by a light rash with or without pruritus, leucopenia, hemolytic anemia, and jaundice.

Storage - Skelaxin should be stored at indoor temperature between 15 and 30 0C (59 and 86 0F) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not keep Skelaxin in the bathroom.

Overdose - Symptoms of an overdose are severe drowsiness or unconsciousness. In case an overdose is suspected, seek emergency.

More Information - Be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities because Skelaxin administration may lead to dizziness or drowsiness. Try not to take strong drinks while taking Skelaxin, because alcohol may elevate the risk of having drowsiness and dizziness.
