Drug Uses -
Sumycin is used to treat infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.
How Taken -
The usual daily dose of Sumycin is 1g to 2g. This dosage may be increased by your doctor in case of severe infections. Therapy should last for at least 24 to 48 hours after the symptoms and fever have faded.
Warnings/Precautions -
You are obliged to consult with your doctor if you are hypersensitive to tetracyclines. Using Sumycin in the absence of a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection may lead to the development of drug-resistant bacteria.
Missed Dose -
Do not skip doses and complete the full course of therapy because it influences the effectiveness of the treatment.
Possible Side Effects -
Side effects of Sumycin are anorexia, epigastric distress, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bulky loose stools, stomatitis, sore throat, glossitis, black hairy tongue, dysphagia, hoarseness, enterocolitis, and inflammatory lesions (with candidal overgrowth) in the anogenital region.
Storage -
Sumycin should be stored at indoor temperature in a tight, light-resistant container; avoid excessive heat. It must be kept out of the reach of children.
Overdose -
In case an overdose is suspected, seek emergency.
More Information -
In case you are undergoing long-term therapy, periodic laboratory evaluation of organ system function should be performed (renal, hepatic, and hematopoietic systems).
