Drug Uses - Tramadol helps to relieve moderate to moderately severe pain. Additionally it may be used to treat pain caused by surgery and chronic conditions such as cancer or joint pain. Mechanism of action is the decreasing of brain's perception and response to pain and reducing of the size or magnitude of the pain signal passed from one nerve to another. Tramadol may be used to treat other conditions.

How Taken - Tramadol is a tablet to be taken orally every 4-6 hours with or without food. Take Tramadol as recommended by your doctor. In some cases Tramadol may be habit-forming. Thus, do not take it longer than prescribed.

Warnings/Precautions - Talk to you doctor and tell about all the health problems you have had before: liver disease, a history of alcohol or drug dependence. If you have had any of these conditions you may not be able to take Tramadol or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment. Tramadol is in the FDA pregnancy C. It is not clear whether Tramadol is detrimental to an unborn baby. You should consult with your doctor before taking Tramadol if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment or if you are breast-feeding a baby, because it is not known whether Tramadol passes into breast milk. You are more likely to have side effects from Tramadol if you are 75 years of age (the maximum daily dose for such persons is 300 mg). Tramadol is not indicated for children younger than 16 years of age.

Missed Dose - In case you have missed a dose, take it as soon as possible. But don't take an extra dose in situation when you forget to take a tablet and it is near the time for the next intake. Wait and take the next dose according to the schedule. Do not double the dose.

Possible Side Effects - Side effects from Tramadol are not common. You are likely to have migraine, speech disorders, gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatitis, stomatitis, liver failure while taking this drug. Consult with your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms: dizziness, headache, drowsiness, blurred vision, upset stomach, vomiting, and diarrhea. The next symptoms need immediate medical attention: fast heartbeat, redness, swelling, and itching of the face, numbness or tingling of the hands and feet, difficulty breathing, changes in urination, seizures.

Storage - Tramadol should be stored at 25°C (77°F) in a tight container; excursions permitted to 15 - 30°C (59 - 86°F).

Overdose - Symptoms of an overdose are difficulty breathing, shallow, weak breathing, and seizures. In case you have an overdosage, seek emergency.

More Information - Be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities because administration of Tramadol may lead to dizziness or drowsiness. Try to avoid such activities. Taking alcohol while taking Tramadol is banned, because Tramadol causes an increase in breathing and/or liver problems during treatment. Sleeping pills, tranquilizers, sedatives, and antihistamines may increase drowsiness. Use them only under the supervision of your doctor.
