Drug Uses - Ultram helps to relieve moderate to moderately severe pain. Additionally it may be used to treat pain caused by surgery and chronic conditions such as cancer or joint pain. Mechanism of action is the decreasing of brain's perception and response to pain and reducing of the size or magnitude of the pain signal passed from one nerve to another. Ultram may be prescribed to treat other conditions.

How Taken - Ultram is a tablet to be taken orally every 4-6 hours with or without food. Take Ultram as recommended by your doctor. In some cases Ultram may be habit-forming. Thus, do not take it longer than prescribed. Follow the prescribed dosage.

Warnings/Precautions - Talk to you doctor and tell about all the health problems you have had before: liver disease, a history of alcohol or drug dependence. If you have ever had any of such conditions, you may not beable to take Ultram or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment. Ultram is in the FDA pregnancy C. It is not clear whether Ultram is detrimental to an unborn baby. You should consult with your doctor before taking Ultram if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment or if you are breast-feeding a baby, because it is not known whether Ultram passes into breast milk. You are more likely to have side effects from Ultram if you are 75 years of age (the maximum daily dose for such persons is 300 mg). Ultram is not indicated for children younger than 16 years of age.

Missed Dose - In case you have missed a dose, take it as soon as possible. But don't take an extra dose in situation when you forget to take a tablet and it is near the time for the next intake. Wait and take the next dose according to the schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Possible Side Effects - Side effects from Ultram are not common. You are more likely to have migraine, speech disorders, gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatitis, stomatitis, liver failure while taking this drug. Consult with your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms: dizziness, headache, drowsiness, blurred vision, upset stomach, vomiting, and diarrhea. The next symptoms need immediate medical attention: fast heartbeat, redness, swelling, and itching of the face, numbness or tingling of the hands and feet, difficulty breathing, changes in urination, seizures.

Storage - Ultram should be stored at 25°C (77°F) in a tight container; excursions permitted to 15 - 30°C (59 - 86°F).

Overdose - Symptoms of an overdose are difficulty breathing, shallow, weak breathing, and seizures. In case you have an overdosage, seek emergency.

More Information - Be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities because administration of Ultram may lead to dizziness or drowsiness. Try to avoid such activities. Taking alcohol while using Ultram is banned, because it increases breathing and/or liver problems during treatment. Sleeping pills, tranquilizers, sedatives, and antihistamines may increase drowsiness. Use them only under the supervision of your doctor.
