Drug Uses -
Wellbutrin (Anti Depressant) is indicated as a drug used in the treatment of depression. It acts directly on the brain and nerve cells. It is also prescribed for the treatment of ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder), bipolar depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, cocaine addiction, nicotine addiction, and lower back pain. Moreover, it helps in quitting smoking (as Zyban). Wellbutrin is unrelated to tricyclic, tetracyclic, selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, or other known antidepressant agents.
How Taken -
Wellbutrin is a tablet to be taken orally one to three times a day with or without food. It is obligatory to swallow it whole without chewing, dividing or crushing. Take it regularly to have the full effect. Do not give up using Wellbutrin without medical consultation. Your dose may be decreased gradually, especially if you have taken large doses for a long time.
Warnings/Precautions -
Talk to you doctor and tell about all the health problems you have had before: history of seizures or head injury or brain tumor, heart disease, liver or kidney disease, eating disorder, diabetes, alcohol dependence, any allergies, the intent to quit smoking. Try to avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities because Wellbutrin may cause dizziness, coordination affection. Try to limit alcohol consumption. Alcohol may also increase the risk of seizures. It is not recommended to stop taking certain tranquilizers suddenly, because it may increase the risk of having seizures. You are more likely to have unfavorable reactions if you are over 65 years old. You should consult with your doctor before taking Wellbutrin if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Do not use Wellbutrin without medical consultation in case you are breast-feeding a baby. It may pass into breast milk
Missed Dose -
In case you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember but not if it is within 4 hours of the next dose. But do not take an extra dose in situation when you forget to take Wellbutrin and it is near the time for the next intake. Wait and take the next dose according to the schedule. Do not double the dose, it is not allowed to take 2 doses at once.
Possible Side Effects -
Wellbutrin is usually well tolerated. Talk to your doctor if you have dry mouth, headache, increased sweating, nausea/vomiting, constipation, anxiety, fatigue and blurred vision. Consult with your doctor immediately in case you experience unusual weight loss or gain, palpitations, agitation, trouble sleeping, tremor, dizziness, fainting, mood changes, slowed movements, difficulty urinating, decreased sex drive, and drowsiness, seizures, mental problems, fever, muscle aches, yellowing of the eyes or skin. You are unlikely to have allergic reaction but seek emergency immediately if you have symptoms of allergic reaction: trouble breathing, rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you have other effects not mentioned above, consult with your doctor.
Storage -
It should be stored at controlled indoor temperature 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F) in a tightly closed, light-resistant container.
Overdose -
Symptoms of an overdosage are seizures, hallucinations and loss of consciousness, weakness, a fast heartbeat, and heart attack. In case an overdose is suspected, seek emergency.
More Information -
You may have dizziness and actually faint when getting up from a lying or sitting position. Try to get up slowly and if this problem does not disappear consult with your doctor. Be careful, as exceed administering of this medicine may increase the risk of having a seizure. Consumption of caffeine should be limited while taking Wellbutrin.
