Drug Uses -
Zanaflex helps to relax certain muscles in your body. It is used to treat spasms and increased muscle tone caused by medical problems such as multiple sclerosis or spinal injury. It can be prescribed for other uses.
How Taken -
Zanaflex is a tablet to be taken orally two or three times a day. Follow prescribed recommendation carefully. Do not exceed or diminish the prescribed dose.
Warnings/Precautions -
Before using Zanaflex tell your doctor the next information: if you have liver or kidney disease, have low blood pressure or you are on medication to treat high blood pressure; or you are taking birth control pills. In such conditions you may not be able to take Zanaflex or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment. Zanaflex is in the FDA pregnancy C. It is not clear whether Zanaflex is detrimental to an unborn baby. You should consult with your doctor before taking Zanaflex if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment or if you are breast-feeding a baby, because it is not known whether Zanaflex passes into breast milk.
Missed Dose -
In case you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But do not take an extra dose in situation when you forget to take a tablet and it is near the time for the next intake. Wait and take the next dose according to the schedule. Try not to double the dose to catch up.
Possible Side Effects -
Zanaflex has some side effects. You may experience dizziness, upset stomach, vomiting, tingling sensation in the arms, legs, hands, and feet, dry mouth, increased muscle spasms, yellowing of the skin or eyes, unexplained flu-like symptoms. In such cases consult with you doctor immediately.
Storage -
Zanaflex should be stored at controlled indoor temperature, away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Keep it out of the reach of children.
Overdose -
Typical symptoms of an overdose are not well known but may include unconsciousness and irregular breathing. In case an overdose is suspected, seek emergency.
More Information -
Be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities because Zanaflex may lead to dizziness or drowsiness. If you have such signs, try to avoid these activities. You may have dizziness or actually faint when getting up from a lying or sitting position. Try to get up slowly and if this problem does not disappear consult with your doctor. Alcohol, other muscle relaxants, sleep or anxiety medicines, and pain medicines may increase drowsiness. You should not take any other medicine during treatment with Zanaflex without medical consultation.
