Drug Uses -
Zithromax is a medicine used against different types of bacterial infections, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases.
How Taken -
There are different forms of Zithromax: a capsule, tablet, and liquid. Zithromax should be taken orally once a day for 2-5 days. Follow prescribed recommendations carefully. Do not give up taking Zithromax without medical consultation. You should continue taking Zithromax even if you feel well. Zithromax liquid should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Shake the liquid well before each usage. The capsule and the tablet may be taken with or without food. In case it upsets your stomach, take it with food.
Warnings/Precautions -
If you have ever had any type of liver disease you may not be able to take Zithromax or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment. However, consult with your doctor. Zithromax is in the FDA pregnancy category B. It is not expected to be detrimental to an unborn baby but before taking Zithromax if you are pregnant first talking to your doctor. Consult with your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby because it is not clear whether Zithromax passes into breast milk.
Missed Dose -
In case you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But don't take an extra dose in situation when you forget to take Zithromax and it is near the time for the next intake. Wait and take the next dose according to the schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up unless otherwise recommended by your doctor.
Possible Side Effects -
Zithromax may cause some side effects. The serious side effects are an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); or liver damage (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue). In case you have any of the following serious side effects, stop using Zithromax and seek emergency. Do not stop taking Zithromax but consult with your doctor if you have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain; unusual dizziness, fatigue, or headache; vaginal yeast infection; a rash; or increased sensitivity to sunlight. You may also experience other side effects. If you have other effects not listed above, you should consult with your doctor.
Storage -
Store Zithromax at 15 - 30°C (59 - 86°F) in tightly closed container. Store constituted suspension between 5° to 30°C (41° to 86°F) and discard when full dosing is completed or within 10 days. Shake well before each use. Oversized bottle provides shake space.
Overdose -
Symptoms of Zithromax overdosage are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. In case you have an overdosage, seek emergency.
More Information -
The sensitivity of the skin to sunlight while using Zithromax may be increased. Try to avoid exposure to sunlight or use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when exposure to the sun is unavoidable.
