Drug Uses -
Zyrtec is an antihistamine drug used to prevent sneezing, runny nose, itching and watering of the eyes, hives (urticaria), other allergic symptoms and allergic inflammatory conditions.
How Taken -
Zyrtec is a tablet to be taken orally once a day. You may take it regularly or when allergy symptoms appear. Follow prescribed recommendations carefully. Do not exceed or diminish the prescribed dose.
Warnings/Precautions -
If you have ever had any type of liver disease you may not be able to take Zyrtec or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment. Tell your doctor before use Zyrtec. Zyrtec is in the FDA pregnancy category B. It is not expected to be detrimental to an unborn baby. Nevertheless, first talk to your doctor before taking Zyrtec if you are pregnant. Consult with your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby, because it is not clear whether Zyrtec passes into breast milk.
Missed Dose -
In case you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But don't take an extra dose in situation when you forget to take Zyrtec and it is near the time for the next intake. Wait and take the next dose according to the schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up unless otherwise recommended by your doctor.
Possible Side Effects -
Stop taking Zyrtec and seek emergency in case you have an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives). Continue taking Zyrtec and talk to your doctor in case you have less serious side effects: sleepiness, fatigue, or dizziness; headache; or dry mouth. You may also have other side effects not mentioned above. In such cases you should consult with your doctor.
Storage -
It should be stored at 20-25°C (68-77°F); excursions permitted to 15-30°C (59-86°F).
Overdose -
Symptoms of a Zyrtec overdose may include extreme sleepiness, confusion, and weakness. In such cases seek emergency.
More Information -
Try not to take strong drinks while taking Zyrtec because alcohol may elevate the risk of having drowsiness and dizziness. Be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities because Zyrtec administration may lead to dizziness or drowsiness. Try to avoid these activities while taking Zyrtec.
